FediBoard, a browser extension built to give Flipboard curators the tools their platform lacked, today announced the public availability of its full ecosystem: FediBoard, FediPool, FediStation, and FediFind. Together, they form the most complete bridge yet between Flipboard curation and the Open Social Web.

Flipboard has long been a home for passionate curators, people who spend hours finding, organizing, and sharing the best content on the web. Yet the platform's native interface offers little in the way of professional tools. No story search. No bulk flipping. No follower management. No cross-posting on the Open Web. FediBoard was built to fill every one of those gaps.

The FediBoard browser extension installs as a side panel directly inside Flipboard's web app. It gives curators instant access to:

• Story search and notification capture
• Follower tracking and magazine list management
• CSV export
• Copilot: a semi-automated campaign tool that flips or reflips a story into an entire list of magazines in one session

At the heart of FediBoard's mission is the Open Social Web Boost. With one click, curators cross-post any flipped story to topic-routed channel accounts on Bluesky (ATprotocol), Flipboard Social on Mastodon (ActivityPub) and Surf Social feeds. Content lands in the right channel, Travel, Food, Lifestyle, Wellness, Culture, Science, or Mix, based on the hashtags used. No algorithm decides who sees it.

FediPool extends that mission into community. It is a credit-based story exchange built into the FediBoard panel. Curators add their stories to the pool. Other members flip or like those stories, earning credits in return. Those credits are spent engaging with others. Exposure is earned through participation.

FediStation WP plugin brings the same philosophy to WordPress. The plugin adds a sharing panel to any blog, giving readers one-click access to Mastodon, Bluesky, Flipboard, Threads, and Lemmy. Direct Channel Boost integration lets bloggers push articles into the Open Social Web without leaving their dashboard. Blog Social Comments will be available soon.

FediFind completes the ecosystem. It is a public discovery platform aggregating live content from Mastodon, Bluesky, and Flipboard Social into a single searchable feed. No account required, making it the zero-friction entry point to the Open Social Web for any reader.

FediBoard is available as a free extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. Premium and Pro Curator plans unlock higher pool slot limits, extended campaign history, and increased daily credit caps. FediStation is a free WordPress plugin. "Flipboard curators are among the most dedicated content people on the web," said Thierry, the French founder of FediBoard. "They deserve tools that match their commitment. But beyond tools, they deserve reach. The Open Social Web is where that reach lives, open, portable, and free from algorithmic gatekeeping. FediBoard exists to connect those two worlds."

The founder of this indie software has witnessed a lot since he first experienced HTML (1.0) with the Mosaic browser at the dawn of the web. He was taught by Robert Cailliau, co-developer of the World Wide Web alongside Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in Switzerland, providing him printed documents to fully understand what was at stake with the HTTP protocol. Netscape and HTML 2.0 were the real turning point: the moment people could finally publish with simple HTML and own their content completely out of Compuserve or AOL.

"It is difficult to describe how exciting that period was, despite the long and costly internet connections via 28.8 Kbps modem and the five-minute wait for a page to load. Content had a double value back then: if you were lucky enough to access it, you had truly earned it, and that made you pay close attention to every word. Today, content is overwhelming, access is instant, and if you are walled in, you end up reading what the platform decided for you, not what you actually came looking for."

Social media has fundamentally changed the relationship between content and its audience, and not for the better. Content has lost the value it once carried. Misinformation and outright fabrication spread faster than corrections ever could. Rage-baiting and manipulative headlines pull readers toward content that is low-quality at best and harmful at worst. And behind all of it, the big platforms are not innocent bystanders: they finance and amplify this cycle deliberately, because outrage and dependency are what keep their users "insane and inside", and their shareholders satisfied.

"That is why social websites are the next frontier," Thierry said. "Feeds that a user can master at will, across topics that matter to them, preserving their sanity with quality content. I even wonder whether the wave of under-16 social media bans could not be better addressed by giving teens the tools to step out of that insane circle of harmful content they consume every day. Banning is a reaction. Education and better tools are the answer. Apps like Surf Social are pointing in the right direction. They will get there with time."

FediBoard has created topic channels available on FediFind.com, where users can not only search the Open Social Web but also discover curated content flowing directly out of Flipboard. "We are considering expanding the channel lineup: a teen-focused channel would be a natural fit," Thierry said. "Think of it as what Yahoo once did well: a search bar above, and curated categories to browse below. Familiar, but built for the open web."

When asked whether that vision carries a note of nostalgia, Thierry does not shy away from it. "Nostalgia is often just the instinct to audit where we came from and where we are heading. Right now, the internet is not heading in a good direction. We have an obligation to correct it by offering the right tools." FediBoard intends to be part of that correction.

Flipboard has not officially taken a position on FediBoard, neither endorsing nor objecting to this layer built on top of its web app. "The time will come," Thierry said. "I feel a connection to Mike McCue through his experience and his vision, which I share. We hope FediBoard is bringing real value to Flipboard: useful features, happier curators, and the energy to keep the whole ecosystem alive and thriving, always in total respect of Flipboard's guidelines."

The future is bright for content creators, bloggers, and storytellers of every kind, yet the ground is shifting beneath them. FediBoard is actively working on FediStation 2.0, the next version of its WordPress plugin currently offering Open Social Web sharing and a live FediFind search bar directly in the panel. The headline feature of this new version is Social Comments: a system that replaces traditional guest comment sections with a live social thread anchored to the article's corresponding post on Bluesky or Mastodon. Readers can interact with the author directly on the blog or through the federated post, bringing real conversations back to the open web where they belong.
